Position Information

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position is responsible for paraprofessional work with County Extension Agents in a food and nutrition education program for limited resource clients. The employee will exhibit qualities of independent judgment. Work is performed under general supervision.
Job duties include planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting nutrition and food safety classes for limited resource clients, including youth and adults, under supervision of County Extension Agent. Job duties also include assisting the County Extension Agent by researching and providing information requested by clients.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Reliable transportation to obtain supplies and deliver programming.
- Ability to relate effectively with limited resource adults, youth, and families.
- Ability to learn basic food preparation skills.
- Skills in informal teaching environments at sites where limited resource individuals are located.
- Strong communication skills and experience interacting with wide ranging groups of people.
- Ability to lead groups effectively including ability to speak clearly to audiences and with sufficient volume to be heard without amplification.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Stand for long periods to effectively present programs to attendees
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Effectively use kitchen tools including knives, spoons, blenders, choppers, etc.
- Bending
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Develops, organizes, conducts and assists in evaluation of nutrition education programs for low income adults and youth.
- Effectively organizes time and materials by reviewing program lessons, efficiently develops shopping lists for necessary ingredients, including coordinating lists of multiple recipes or with other teammates.
- Utilize Outlook calendar to schedule and communicate programs, county events, and activities. Ensures calendar is thorough and accurately reflects all activities.
- Comply with county funds policy/practices to purchase food demonstration supplies, including efficient resources management, ensures invoices are properly documented and submitted in a timely manner, and that all food supplies stored safely.
- Submit mileage reimbursement for any shopping/program delivery/training submitted according to policy.
- Effectively conduct food preparation activities to include chopping, mixing, slicing, dicing, and correctly measure ingredients. Utilize basic household kitchen equipment including cookware, mixers, knives, and baking equipment. Ensure all program/teaching materials/requirements are prepared and ready for an organized presentation.
- Maintain knowledge of inventory and supplies for demonstrations to minimize waste and/or over purchasing. Coordinate inventory reconciliation with other team members as appropriate.
- Ensure full knowledge of educational content to effectively and efficiently present lessons as written and with appropriate methodology and ensuring food safety in the preparation.
- Lead activities, discussions and conduct food cooking/demonstrations for an audience of variable sizes.
- Respond effectively and problem solve various challenges associated with space allocation.
- Ensure food safety in transportation of food supplies and when providing food samples.
- Ensure effective data collection from class participants via forms or other methodologies.
- Conduct activities that are responsive to the needs of the client, including evenings, weekends, and night schedules. Flexible scheduling is to be expected, as activities may take place on alternative schedules.
Recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers to assist with activities.
Percentage of time 5 Duties/Responsibilities
Participates in in-service staff development.
- Attend and complete all required Extension training. Complete UGA mandated training as appropriate.
- Comply with UGA /Extension policies and procedures including recordkeeping and accurate time recording.
- Complete county-based training as determined by County Extension Coordinator and/or immediate supervisor.
Assists with Extension / EFNEP events in county.
- May utilize role as Program Assistant in supporting relationships with appropriate organizations to offer nutrition education.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and other UGA recordkeeping systems.
- Assist with other events in the County as needed.
